Happy Birthday to My Oldest!

Last week my oldest son turned the big one o. Yep, he's 10 now, not sure how I feel about that yet. I've been  someone's mom for a decade. In some ways, I'm happy. It means he's growing up, becoming more independent & giving me more free time. He can help around the house more, cleaning up after himself. He finally "gets" that joke about what do you call a cow with no legs. He can play games with me, giving his dad a break from getting beat.  It means I'm doing my job as a mom, he's lived this long & he's healthy & mostly happy. There's a whole host of reasons it's a good thing. BUT, and there's always one of those, it also means I'm getting older. He's 6 years away from driving & 8 years or so away from leaving the nest. It means I have to let him be more of who he wants to be & less of who I think he needs to become. It means my 1st baby is growing up & in some ways growing away from me. I know it's inevitable, but I still feel so melancholy about the entire situation.
